Vehicle Storage Size Needed

Vehicle Storage Size Needed

What size of storage space is needed to store a vehicle indoors?

It all depends on the size of your vehicle. Most of our vehicle storage units are 10-foot wide with 8′ to 8’x8″ wide doors, therefore they are wide enough for any passenger vehicles and most trucks (with folding side mirrors.) Typically, it is the length of your vehicle that determines what size unit you need. Be sure to measure or look up the dimensions of your vehicle when deciding. Add a few inches for license plate frames and any hitches. Also, do you need additional storage? If so, rent a longer space.

Drive-up storage units provide an indoor, garage-like storage space for cars and trucks. With varying unit sizes available at anything from a compact car to a large pickup truck or commercial cargo van can be stored at our facility. Motorcycles can be stored too and generally do not require large spaces. The common storage unit sizes for a motorcycle or cars and trucks include:

  • 5 X 10: Motorcycle
  • 10 X 10 Larger motorcycle or three-wheeler models.
  • 10×15: Some compact cars
  • 10×20: Sedans, SUVs, vans, pickups, and more
  • 10×25: Large pickup trucks and vans

Motorcycles mostly can fit in a 5 X 10 sized unit.

Compact cars can fit in traditional storage spaces measuring 15 feet deep or more with at least an 8 feet wide garage-style door.

10 x 25 and 10 x 30 Sized Units

The nice thing about a larger unit, you can have extra space for storage. Some vehicles also need this sized unit. Also, for vehicles like pickup trucks with large cabs or commercial cargo vans, a 10 x 20 unit will not provide enough room. Therefore, a longer unit may be needed.

Car Examples:

  • Chevrolet Express (cargo van): 20.3 feet
  • GMC Sierra 3500 (crew cab & long box): 21.5 feet
  • Ford F-350 (crew cab & long box): 22.2 feet
